ACDI/VOCA is currently seeking a Walnut and Almond Specialist for an upcoming volunteer assignment in the Republic of Georgia. The local association has requested volunteer assistance to provide training on walnut and almond processing, including pre-cleaning, hulling, shelling, kernel grading, blanching and skin separating.
Due to the current pandemic, this assignment will begin with remote communication with a trip to Georgia at a later date or may be paired with a local volunteer to complete as a team. The assignment will last for approximately 2 weeks in country, in addition to preparation and research previous to departure. Travel and living expenses will be provided.
Volunteer Qualifications
- University degree in Horticulture or some other related topic.
- At least 5-10 years of experience working with tree nuts.
- Experience processing walnuts or almonds.
- Proficient computer skills including MS Word and Excel
