Position Description

We are looking for a talented Staff Software Engineer to help us design and build our consumer-facing software platform. This role will require working within a multi-disciplinary organization to discover product requirements and design software systems while writing clean and performant code. You will be one of our earliest engineers and will work across projects as diverse as augmented reality, web and mobile app development, IoT, data collection, and business intelligence. You will help brainstorm, prototype, explore, design, build, and integrate engaging consumer-facing applications that will use technology to better connect people with the food they eat.

Responsibilities

    • Lead architecture, development, testing, and documentation of multiple consumer-facing applications with complex goals and competing priorities
    • Work in coordination with Farm Technology and infrastructure teams to develop robust cross-organizational architecture, processes, and standards
    • Discover tools and third-party services that could reduce development and maintenance requirements
    • Communicate and coordinate with external partners on shared development priorities
    • Assess and manage code written by contractors and junior engineers
    • Work in an agile team to develop complete, elegant, and well-documented software products
    • Collaborate with designers, product managers, engineers, non-technical stakeholders, and leadership to discover requirements and deliver compelling products
    • Design and refine software architecture across our consumer technology organization
    • Initiate discussions, collaborate with peers and provide design direction to ensure technical feasibility and long-term maintainability
    • Implement robust software development processes and continually improve the team’s practices
    • Identify, track, and resolve performance issues and bugs
    • Train and mentor junior software engineers

Requirements

    • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Has led development of products from concept to scale
    • Expert understanding of software engineering and architecture
    • Expert understanding of modern web application frameworks, such as React, Angular, and Vue
    • Skilled in native and cross-platform mobile development using technologies like Swift, Java, Kotlin, Objective-C, React Native, Xamarin, Flutter
    • Previously built or managed backend development of web and mobile applications
    • Extensive experience working in AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud
    • Strong understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, and provisioning tools like Terraform
    • Expert understanding of Git and CI/CD

Preferred Skills And Abilities

    • Early-stage startup or R&D experience
    • Experience developing applications that integrate many underlying APIs
    • Full-stack engineer with experience developing backend infrastructure in Python, .NET, Node.js, Ruby, Go, Rust, or Elixir
    • Experience managing engineers
    • Has taken IoT products to market
    • Experience in DevOps and cloud or data infrastructure
