    Job Description

    Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a Farm Manager for this east-central Georgia producer. Farm Manager will create and grow agriculture program. The Farm Manager will oversee all aspects of farm production to support the needs of its farm to table culinary program while providing experiential learning opportunities to local college students. This College, is their first post secondary educational venture of its kind and offers fully accredited curriculum of certificate, diploma and degree programs. It embodies a unique integration of experiential learning, intensive student advisement and mentoring services to achieve middle skills career advancement. While creating a positive and vibrant learning environment for students and employees, the Farm Manager will oversee all agricultural activities of the farm which will feature in ground planting as well as greenhouse and vertical farming. The Farm Manager will be responsible for planning and implementing the planting and harvest schedule, maintenance of equipment and property, institution of and adherence to quality control measures for all production and scheduling the production staff and student workers. Also a part of the Farm Manager’s responsibilities will be assisting with the development and leading of workshop sessions/demonstrations for students and guests, creation of curriculum materials for educational sessions and oversight of the design and execution of special events, projects and activities. Future growth potential includes management of multi farming locations. The requirements for this position include a BS degree in the field of Agriculture (graduate degree preferred), five years of full-season farm management, including creating business, production, post-harvest handling, and marketing plans. Demonstrated experience in project, program and/or organizational management is also required as is supervisory experience in an agricultural setting. The Farm Manager must also have a mechanical aptitude and experience operating and maintaining irrigation systems, farm machinery, truck and small engines, greenhouse growing systems and have excellent computer skills with proficiency with MS Office.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Demonstrate core values of the company by modeling service, ownership, accountability and respect. Create a positive and vibrant learning environment for employees and students. Plan planting schedule including determination of types of crops, seasonal schedule, rotation, and quantities, coordinating with needs of culinary, market and educational programs. Oversee planting and insure that all plantings are completed on time. Responsible for identification and control of pests and disease control, taking necessary steps to eradicate pests and keeping records of actions taken. Schedule harvest and track harvest inventory and distribution to retail outlets. Establish and ensure adherence to quality control measures for all production. Responsible for scheduled maintenance and keeping records of all maintenance for farm equipment. Work with irrigation specialist to plan, modify and/or expand irrigation system for production on farm. Place orders for seed and farm supplies. Research and orders tools and farm equipment in accordance with budget. Help procure donations of farm tools, services, and supplies. Schedule property maintenance as needed (mowing, building/fence repairs, weed-eating, chemical weed control, asphalt repair). Implement and monitor budget and business plans. Responsible for scheduling of production staff, student workers and volunteers, communicating required accomplishments during the work shift. Conduct daily farm walks with student workers to teach seasonal concepts, identify pests and diseases, and answer questions. Assist in development of and lead workshop sessions for eco-tourists and students, which may include demonstrations on the farm, guest speakers, hands-on activities, and extension staff. Act as a resource for program information for project partners, grant proposals, and community members. As needed, create curriculum for educational sessions which promotes practices required for industry certification. Oversee the design and execution of special events, projects and activities as requested.
