The Director, Environment and Climate Change will provide technical guidance and support that informs proposals, project implementation and overall organizational strategy in environment and climate change matters. S/he will help to ensure that the organization’s projects are implementing activities in line with best environmental practices following local and donors’ environmental regulations.

Deliver specific short-term technical assistance (STTA) to projects or task orders, identifying environmental and climate concerns that prevent agricultural systems from functioning effectively. Provide technical leadership in environmental compliance and regulations to all projects, including building the capacity of local staff in environment compliance. Identify and develop project tools that can be incorporated into the larger practice area; establish technical core materials, information resources and trainings. Increase programmatic and technical skills of field and headquarters staff by designing and collaborating on trainings and/or information resources. Provide perspective and expertise on emerging issues and trends in the environmental sector and its impact on agriculture, including resilience and climate change. Participate in appropriate professional organizations and events, including internal technically focused communities of practice. Elevate significant technical issues to project directors, project managers or supervisor, as appropriate. Play an active role in new business development, contributing to proposal efforts as technical writer, technical lead, technical reviewer or by providing technical content. Be a subject matter expert for environmental compliance in proposal development and a thought leader for strategic relationships with both partner and conservation & environmental organizations. Independently identify and qualify new business opportunities to achieve new business goals. Collaborate with other departments as necessary to establish technical core materials, information resources and trainings. Organize and facilitate in working groups with participants from TLA and Project Management around relevant technical topics. Actively seek out opportunities to share technical knowledge. Gather information from field offices and implements improvements. Respond to technical needs from practice areas, project staff, and others. Collaborate with Communications and Outreach to market ACDI/VOCA’s commitment to technical learning. Participate in networking events and donor outreach events to ensure ACDI/VOCA’s visibility at relevant fora. Serve as the principal contact for specific donor and/or agreements related to environment and climate change. Identify partners and build effective professional partnerships that help ACDI/VOCA achieve its goals. Perform other duties as required.

Master’s degree in environment, natural resource management, agriculture or related field required. Minimum of 7 years of experience, including overseas work, in international development or related field required. Experience in USAID environmental regulations and policies is strongly preferred. Sound experience with proposal activities including field research, implementation schedules, monitoring systems, and information integration. Foreign language fluency strongly preferred, preferably Spanish or French. Experience with multi-media applications, PowerPoint and other Microsoft programs. Demonstrated ability in communication skills (written and verbal). Excellent leadership, problem solving, teamwork, interpersonal skills. Willingness to perform international travel (up to 30%) required.
