How many hours of light for microgreens?

Growing sunflower and pea shoots commercially. Currently running lights 16 hours on, 8 hours off. Some growers I have spoken to run 24 hours. Does the extra light actually improve growth speed enough to justify the electricity cost? Or do the plants benefit from a dark period?
